However, these essays are not an apologia for Catholicism or the Church; they are based on the lived experience of a Catholic on a journey through a childhood grounded in the faith, young adulthood in seminary, the changes wrought by Vatican II, and eventually family and fatherhood. Leo wrote these essays in 2000 during the last year of his life. His final wish and hope was that his experience and words might influence others toward a deeper understanding of their faith in God.
