Helper is a person who provides assistance or relief to make a task easier or more accessible. A helper is the nurse or a bridge between the technical side of illness or wellness and the emotional support and comfort needed by another human being. Although the title of the book uses helper, the nurse is much more. Critical medical expertise, emotional support, and leadership in patient care is the bedside nurse. The intent of the book is to recognize the nurse and the patient. How do both become a whole person? A nurse who progressed through the ranks, a mother whose son was seriously ill, a nurse who spent her entire career at the bedside, a nurse whose education provided a different path to care for her patients, and a nurse who found peace in a profession she loved are all recognized here.
