Description:
Going Home is a collection of poems that tells the story of McDonald's growing desire to return to his rural Mississippi boyhood home after growing older. While many of the poems are about his boyhood home and the life he lived there, many others are about his journey from that home to his return many years later. That journey was a long, winding road, but one that he believes was God's plan for him. When he finally returned, he was able to view his old home and the fields, forests, and creeks that he and his dog, Red, had wandered as a boy, but there were many changes, and many were disappointing.
The story centers around family, loss, love, a young man's journey of faith in God's will, and creating a career of discovery, marriage, and family. The long, winding road back home is portrayed in a collection of poems about love, life's special moments, blessings, growing older, and the pandemic. Special messages thank his father, his grandmother, and God for their influences that shaped the quality of his life. The story ends in both exhilaration and disappointment when he realizes that his boyhood home now only exists in his mind.
