Description: Sofer returns to Israel, invited to lecture and hoping to get his pension, stuck in government bureaucracies. Instead he finds...his father's spirit, wandering from node to node, inhabiting a plastic grocery bag, or a salt-loving plant, or a howling desert dog. His father has been waiting there for Sofer to return, to hector him, to educate Sofer's spirit to become a better son, a better man. This land, this Israel is haunted by ghosts gathered from the edges of the earth, like the fringes of the prayer shawl, the tallit, which is grasped in the fingers of prayer each morning.
