Description:
Ruthie Keen buried her husband after he drowned in three feet of water at Whitman's Bend.
The coroner called it an accident.
The river called it a beginning.
Now the water is learning.
Footprints appear on her porch that stop at the door.
Her daughter hears her father's voice from the drain.
And on foggy nights, something wearing his face stands on the riverbank, watching the house.
The Ohio River has always taken.
Now it's starting to give back-and what it returns is wrong.
WHAT THE RIVER LEARNS is a haunting Appalachian horror about grief that won't stay buried and a current that remembers every name it's ever taken.
