I was standing in my kitchen when I got the text. Five words: "Test results came back." And in that instant, everything I thought I could count on-good health, predictable days, the illusion of control-felt like it was slipping through my fingers.
Maybe you know that feeling. The phone call about your teenager. The unexpected layoff. The marriage that seemed fine until it wasn't. The moment you realized the ground you'd been standing on wasn't nearly as solid as you thought.
We all need something to hold onto when life gets shaky. But here's what I've discovered: the "hope" most of us grew up with-crossing our fingers, hoping for the best, hoping things work out-isn't actually the hope the scriptures are talking about.
There's a different kind of hope. One the prophet Moroni called an anchor for the soul. Not wishful thinking, but a deep, settled confidence that doesn't rise and fall with our circumstances.
This book is me working through what that actually looks like-in real life, with real struggles, not just in theory.
We'll talk about what it means to really believe in God, even on the days that's hard. We'll look at all the ways He's kept His promises before, because that history matters when we're hoping for something we can't yet see. We'll dig into why hope is supposed to feel like an anchor and not just a nice idea, and how it can hold you steady even when you've made a mess of things and aren't sure you deserve a second chance.
And underneath all of it, we'll come back to the thing I think we're all really longing for, even if we don't have words for it: to go home. To be back in our Father's presence, not as strangers, but as His children, welcomed with open arms because of what Jesus Christ has already done.
I don't have this all figured out. I'm writing this as much for myself as for you. But I've learned enough to know this: real hope doesn't just help you survive the storm.
It holds you steady until it passes.
