Izumi Shikibu (978- ), a prominent member of the Heian court, shares with us her tempestuous relationship with Prince Atsumichi, which began with the casual exchange of poems, and culminated in her joining the prince at the imperial court.
Brief description: Kochi Doi studied English literature and classic Japanese at Tokyo Imperial University. Following his graduation, he did research in France, England, and Italy. On his return to Japan he taught at a number of universities, introducing English romanticism. also pursued his study of classical Japanese literature, the comparative study of mythology, as well as Eastern and Western literature. In 1949, he became a member of the Japan Academy.
