These ancient explorers were the ones who discovered many of the present day countries and continents. Perhaps the most significant of these discoveries was that of the American continents by a daring explorer and navigator named Christopher Columbus. He was an Italian navigator who sailed west across the Atlantic Ocean in search of a route to Asia but landed in the 'new world' of the Americas and gaining lasting fame.
