Description: Root canal obturation is an essential step in successful endodontic treatment. Its main objective is to ensure a three-dimensional seal of the root canal system, to prevent the persistence or recolonization of bacteria responsible for treatment failures. Bioceramic cements based on calcium silicate represent a recent development in obturation materials, thanks to their particularly interesting biological and physico-chemical properties. The aim of this paper is to illustrate the value of bioceramic cements in definitive orthograde root canal obturation through two clinical cases, and to review their main properties in comparison with traditional cements. The first clinical case concerns the management of an acute alveolar abscess associated with teeth 31 and 41 with significant periapical lesion. After drainage, root canal disinfection and calcium hydroxide medication, final obturation was achieved using a monocone technique combined with BioRoot RCS(R) bioceramic cement.
