Description: This work examines part of the social discourse on the topic of migration. The focus is on the identification and extent of deliberation on the one hand and hate speech on thespeech in user comments on YouTube. Specifically, it involves a quantitative content analysis of user comments under videos from two "mainstream media" (ZDF heute Nachrichten, BILD) and one "alternative medium" (Compact TV). The central research questions are: Q1: Which characteristics of deliberation occur most frequently in the user comments on the videos of the two "mainstream media" and the "alternative medium", respectively?Q2: Which characteristics of hate speech occur most frequently in the user comments on the videos of the two "mainstream media" and the "alternative medium"? A total of 540 user comments under 18 videos on YouTube were analyzed. The results show that features of deliberation are found more frequently in user comments under videos from "mainstream media", while features of hate speech are more common in user comments under videos from "alternative media".
