Description: The main character in the story is a guy named Tazaki Tsukuru. Tazaki Tsukuru had four close friends in high school. Their names all had kanji for colors like "red", "blue", "white", and "black", but Tazaki's name didn't have any words for colors, so he felt strange and worried. He was also the only one in that group of friends who left his hometown to attend a university in Tokyo. Then one day, when he was twenty, the other four suddenly announced that they were ending their friendship with him, and Tazaki felt lost and lonely. So from July of his second year of university to January of his third year, "he lived always thinking about death." Time passed, Tazaki became a railway engineer and was thirty-six years old. On the surface, he was a successful man, but in reality, the rejection of his four friends left an indelible scar on his soul. When he confided in his lover about his past, she encouraged him to "face his past honestly." Therefore, Tazaki decided to make a "pilgrimage" to find the root cause of the actions of four friends sixteen years ago.
