Brief description: Jaime Osorio is a Chilean social scientist who has resided in Mexico since the military coup of Augusto Pinochet and continued to develop the Marxist dependency theory ever since. A graduate in Sociology from the University of Chile, he received his PhD from the Centre for Sociological Studies at El Colegio de México. He is Distinguished Professor at the Autonomous Metropolitan University, Xochimilco, and National Emeritus Researcher at the National Council of Science and Technology in Mexico. He is the author of more than fifteen books--some of them translated into Portuguese and published in Brazil, others republished in Colombia and Argentina--and more than a hundred academic articles.
