Description: Most probably in the late 1470s or in the early 1480s, the historically keen cardinal and patron Francesco Tedeschini Piccolomini (1437/391503) requested a revision of an older Vita Caroli Magni with regard to content and style of the monk and humanist Hilarion of Verona (ab. 1444 ab. 1484), as the older vita no longer proved to be topical.
