Description: In order to address the various manifestations of domination and regional densification in the Middle Ages, these contributions pull from the fields of medieval art and architectural history, from literary history and the study of sources, from archaeology and comparative research on palatinate studies, as well as from the analysis of ambulatory practices of ruling. The representative aspect of the traveling ruler and his associated kingdoms, as well as the literary representation of actions and locations, are the focus of the work. A balance sheet of palatinate research is provided, as well as an opening of a new perspective for future research into palatinates, residences, and country cultures of the early Middle Ages.
