Yet Christianity began not at Christmas but at Easter, not with the birth of Jesus but with the resurrection of the crucified. In this study, Dalferth makes the case for placing not the incarnation but the resurrection at the center of Christology and thus of Christian theology. The liberating message of the Gospel is not the degradation of God into human being, but the elevation of humans into the life of God. We, and not God, are changed. God does not become one of us, but rather makes us his own. He comes close to us because he brings us close to him, but he remains the creator and we his creatures.
