Hier wurden nicht nur die kunstliche Befruchtung im Reagenzglas und auch die Praimplantationsdiagnostik entwickelt, es wurde auch bereits 1990 ein Gesetz erlassen, das den neuen Moglichkeiten der Reproduktionsmedizin aufgeschlossen gegenubersteht. Die Rechtslage in Deutschland wird im Hinblick auf das arztliche Ethos und die kodifizierten Standesregeln der Arzte untersucht. Ausserdem wird die Vereinbarkeit der PID mit der derzeitigen Fassung des Embryonenschutzgesetzes erortert. Die verfassungsrechtliche Wurdigung der Praimplantationsdiagnostik bildet einen Schwerpunkt der Untersuchung. Hier findet eine intensive Auseinandersetzung mit der Frage statt, wieweit dem Embryo der Achtungsanspruch der Menschenwurde und ein Recht auf Leben zukommt.
