This book presents the relationships that existed between Masters of soil and producers over the long period which extended between the Carolingian period to the great peasant revolts of the 14th and 15th centuries. Following a period of wealth and prosperity, tensions began to increase as of the 13th century. The lords experienced a significant drop in their income, which is one of the main elements of the crisis between the 14th and 15th centuries. As a consequence, a phenomenon of dispossession of the peasantry in many regions took place making accession to land ownership more and more difficult. This book examines the status of men, the organisation of work, the effective social hierarchies, and presents the history of the general enrichment of the Western World as well as the crisis that ended the Western Middle Ages.
