Description: The Middle Ages left us an enormous number of accounts and tales, a wealth of anecdotes and situations, a gallery of characters and a repertoire of patterns and visual situations conducive to cinematic creation. It has always been an important source of inspiration for film makers: more than 600 films have been made in France and in the world since the creation of cinema and several films are released every year. This work revisits a century of film production concerning the Middle Ages or in which the action explicitly takes place in that period: its major works and its evolution from 1895 to today. It shows us what these films teach us as much about that period and about our history as it does about the context (social, political, economical...) of the film making therefore our own identity and our contemporary history.
