From Creature From the Black Lagoon to Avatar, the 3D cinema knew several waves and seems today to durably set in. Its success was made possible thanks to the analysis of the failures of commercialised strategies of the previous periods and thanks to the development of the digital technology. Creation tool, the relief will still impose itself if the 3D technique keeps progressing and if its use in scenarios and images is justified.
This book is dedicated to all the facets of cinema in relief: historic, technologic, economic, aesthetic and artistic. It allows especially to demystify the 3D cinema by explaining clearly its technical principles, to evaluate its industrial and cultural stakes and to understand how it is perceived by the audience. It is illustrated with an analysis of the most recent films to understand the researches and successes of 3D and to foresee its future.
