Description:
Cotton Mather wrote Directions for a Candidate of the Ministry (Manuductio ad Ministerium) in 1726 after a lifetime of ministry experience. Geared toward younger pastors-in-training, Mather skillfully approaches every aspect of the pastorate with precision and care. For more than a century, this volume was required reading for every candidate of ministry, and still has much to offer in our day.
Brief description: Cotton Mather (1663-1728) served as a pastor at the historic Old North Church in Boston for more than forty years. He was a passionate preacher, prodigious scholar, and prolific writer-penning more than 450 titles. In addition to his pastoral labors, Mather was also a statesman and philanthropist. Next to Jonathan Edwards, Mather is regarded by many to be the most influential religious figure in early American history.
