Description:
In a story set in a border community with too many scores to settle with History, the narrator attempts to restore the identity of a brutally deracinated woman and at the same time engage with his own questions about who we are, what remains of us in others, and what defines what we are, should, or could be.
Review Quotes:
"Pietro Spirito's beautiful novel spans continents and historical moments, shedding light on the instability of national and personal identities in modern Italian history, and on the precariousness of historical memory. Smoothly translated by Charles Klopp and Melinda Nelson, this novel offers a compassionate exploration of a painful chapter in the history of the Italian Northeast and its people, caught in the tides of History."
