Description: During the Civil War, Quaker and abolitionist Jonathan Roberts championed a message of peace and nonviolence. He was a resident of Fairfax County, Virginia, in 1861 at the outbreak of war, and was considered dangerous to the Confederate cause. Roberts, as a Union Scout, would go on to play a vital part in the Union army's ultimate victory over the Confederates in northern Virginia.
