Description: I Think 'm Goin Back follows Michael O. Sajbel as he returns to Wausau, Wisconsin, after many long, forgotten years. What begins as a tentative visit for a class reunion becomes a reconnection with the people, memories, and spirit that shaped his life.
There's a reverence for lifelong friendships and the singular rollicking love of a quintessential Catholic family during Cold War America. But somehow, all of this is accomplished not with saccharine nostalgia, but with the closeup of a filmmaker, transporting us to a time long gone.Sajbel brings to mind the immediacy of movies like Stand by Me, the wry anecdotes of Mark Twain, and the cocksure prose of J. D. Salinger. With warmth, wit, and a deep affection for the people of Wausau, this memoir invites readers to consider what it really means to go back--and what we find when we do.
