Description:

Grace Pugh was not your typical friend, mother, or elementary school teacher, she was a modern woman with a vision and a passion. She was a pilot, flight instructor, and champion of aeronautics. She was Vermont's First Lady of Aviation and the first female licensed pilot in the state.

Grace met the love of her life, Harold Pugh, a handsome daredevil of the sky. In 1932, Harold became the Burlington Airport manager and they were married two years later.

Harold and Grace were visionaries and understood the role aviation would play in our nation's history. Together they dedicated the next thirteen years to the growth and development of the Burlington Airport and the promotion of aviation. A thing they were truly passionate about.

Brief description: Married to James McCullough, mother of three daughters and grandmother of three grandsons and one granddaughter. Lucille retired in 2017 from Catamount Outdoor Family Center, an outdoor recreation business she started with her husband in 1978 on his family farm in Williston, Vermont. In 2019 they conserved 376 acres, now owned by the Town of Williston, to further their vision for the land to remain undeveloped and available to the public for recreation and education. Together they continue to manage the remaining properties and participate in other ventures and adventures.Lucy and her husband live in the 1796 historic Giles Chittenden homestead that has been in his family since 1873. They share an interest in family and local history and are members of the Vermont Historical Society, the Williston Historical Society and Chittenden County Historical Society.
