Description:

Perched on a ridgetop in Vermont with pencil, pen, paintbrush or camera in hand, Sam Wharton has compiled a collection of illustrated poetry, which he shares with you now. These works are, for the most part, personal and retrospective, but they give depth and illusion to the flat surfaces of life. The verse and accompanying visuals expand upon experiences that narrow the distance between us and provide insight beyond our shared horizon.

Brief description: Drawing and creating stories since boyhood, Sam Wharton expanded his writing and artistic range as an English Major and Art Minor at the University of Rhode Island. In graduate school, he taught Freshman English and went on to teach both English and art at the high school level for another four years. In the 1970s, he worked in construction and was a lead carpenter on the first completely solar-heated house built in Rhode Island. In the 80s and until retirement, he worked in the commercial window industry and created custom fenestration for energy-efficient buildings and landmark structures. In 2010 and as a recovering workaholic, he broadened his horizons to pursue and gain an architectural degree at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture.
