Readers will find remarkable characters in ESC from across the globe. The collection presents twenty-two stories, a stimulating mix of genres: science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, realism, and the supernatural. The book opens with a long short story and is then divided into three sections. The opening story "The Weeping" introduces readers to the complexity of characters that is a hallmark of Brescia's work, in this case, centered on a Nepalese family. In the first section on reading (Ctrl), characters are deeply affected by books and, at times, destroyed by them. In the second section on writing (Alt), characters develop an intense, sometimes flawed, relationship to writing. In the third section on other worlds (Delete), characters engage another world as they discover new truths. In these stories, the reader is taken outside of their comfort zone to see whether the "Escape" plan really works.
Brief description: Pablo Brescia was born in Buenos Aires and has lived in the United States since 1986. He has published three books of short stories: La derrota de lo real/The Defeat of the Real (USA/Mexico, 2017), Fuera de Lugar/Out of Place (Peru, 2012/Mexico, 2013, USA 2021) and La apariencia de las cosas/The Appearance of Things (México, 1997), and a book of hybrid texts No hay tiempo para la poesía/No Time for Poetry (Buenos Aires, 2011), with the pen name Harry Bimer.
