Anel I. Flores, a trans, queer, lesbiane, Xicane creative, is a dynamic force in the evolution of Xicana/e art and literature, infusing their work with latina/e transfeminism, queer politics, and resistencia. With a creative journey spanning 25 years, Flores works in poetry, fiction, graphic memoir, and painting, seeking ancestral healing and present-day joy.
Their commitment to re-centering Latina/e, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ voices is evident in their diverse body of work, which challenges binary thought and invites viewers into realms of dreaming. Flores holds an MFA in Creative Writing and is the author of the Lambda Literary Award-nominated "Empanada: A Lesbiana Story en Probaditas," as well as several chapbooks. Their work has been featured in prestigious publications and exhibitions, including the McNay Museum's "TransAmerican" and the NYFA's "Nuestra Delta Magica."
A recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, Flores is deeply involved in advocacy and community-building, co-founding initiatives like Queer Voices and LezRideSA. Currently, they are working on completing their graphic memoir, Painted Red, and preparing for their solo exhibition, "I AM HOME," opening in May 2024 at the Mexican Cultural Center, UNAM San Antonio.
