'Why read Freyre nowadays? The answers to this question are necessarily multiple and contradictory. Some of them conclude that it would be better to make this reading of Freyre our last. Others point to new directions for taking his work forward. Our objective in organizing this volume was to instigate new essays that do not simply represent judgments on the work of Freyre, but rather meaningful interpretations.'
