Descriptions, Reviews, etc.

Description: This book describes a series of brain-smart strategies for changing the brain activity that maintains chronic pain. Based on how the brain processes information, these ranging from bottom-up sensory strategies such as bilateral stimulation to top-down cognitive strategies such as mindfulness. The book includes 15 downloadable audio exercises.

Brief description: Mark Grant is a psychologist/researcher who was an early adopter of EMDR in the treatment of chronic pain after becoming frustrated with the limitations of traditional psychological methods - particularly their inability to modify the sensory aspect of pain. He has created a treatment manual and a variety of self-help resources based on the method. His app 'anxiety release based on E.M.D.R' resulted in the first documented case of an app being used to alleviate physical discomfort associated with chronic pain. Mark lives and works in Melbourne Australia.

Review Quotes: After years of trying different treatments, this book helped me understand my rheumatoid arthritis pain and opened my mind to new ways of controlling my pain. Gillian Liackman, Chronic Pain Sufferer, Wyong, NSW, Australia This book helped me understand how the abuse I suffered as a child was still hurting me. The exercises and the CD helped me to learn how to let go of the pain and feel better. The CD is an incredible resource and I feel better every time I listen to it-which is virtually every night since I got it over a month ago. Leanne Jones, abuse survivor, Sydney, Australia Psychologist Mark Grant has written a compelling and reader-friendly book that not only presents a wealth of information regarding how to manage and heal pain, but also a cogent description of how the brain operates in stress and pain . . . Robert Scaer, MD, author, The Body Bears the Burden and The Trauma Spectrum, Associate Clinical Professorof Neurology at University of Colorado Health Sciences Centre, Denver Great format, strong writing . . . a very useful book.
