Nick learns that his married cousin Daisy and his neighbor Gatsby were once in love, and he agrees to help Gatsby meet with Daisy. Gatsby and Daisy begin an affair. After Tom confronts Daisy and Gatsby, Daisy accidentally kills Tom's mistress with Gatsby's car. Gatsby takes the blame for the accident. Tom identifies Gatsby to his mistress's husband, who proceeds to hunt Gatsby down and kill him for revenge.

Brief description: F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896 - 1940) was an American author whose works became synonymous with the Jazz Age. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century. A member of the "Lost Generation" of the 1920s, his works include the novels This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, The Great Gatsby, and Tender Is the Night. He died at the age of forty-four while working on The Last Tycoon.
