Brief description: Gideon Bohak holds the Jacob M. Alkow Chair for the History of the Jews in the Ancient World at Tel Aviv University, where he teaches at the Department ofJewish Philosophy and Talmud and the Program in Religious Studies. His research focuses on the history of Jewish magic and on the Cairo Genizah. His most recent books include Magie, anges et démons dans la tradition juive, Paris, 2015 (withAnne Hélène Hoog), and Thābit ibn Qurra On Talismans, Pseudo-Ptolemy On Images 1-9, Liber prestigiorum Thebidis of Adelard of Bath, Florence, 2021 (withCharles Burnett). From 2023 to 2028 he is leading an ERC-funded research project, on "The Jewish Library in Late Antiquity: Forgotten Texts and Non-Rabbinic Jews." His many articles are devoted to the publication and analysis of new texts in Aramaic, Hebrew, Judaeo-Arabic and Greek, and to programmatic discussions of different aspects of Jewish magic and Jewish history.
