Description: This book is a collection of essays presented at the two day Symposium on Sex and Sexuality in Hispanic Film and Letters that would take place at the University of Pittsburgh in April 1991. The guests of honour were Gustavo Sainz, film director José Luis Borau and Manuel Puig who unfortunately passed away the year prior and to whom this volume is dedicated. The papers compiled here represent a contemporary critical approach to the work of many different periods, ranging from Columbus's 'Carta Jamaica' (1503) to more recent and explicit examples of narrative and poetry. These new critical visions share a common vision in the lifting of taboos and the loosening of the stronghold of decorum.
