Description:
We is an earth shattering dystopian novel that ruffled the feathers of the ruling elite of Russia when it was smuggled out of the country and published in 1924. It would not see publication in Russia until 1988.
Brief description: Yevgeny Zamyatin (1884-1937) was a Russian novelist, engineer, and literary critic. A vocal critic of censorship and authoritarian control, he faced increasing pressure from Soviet authorities following the foreign publication of We. In 1931, with the intervention of Maxim Gorky, he was permitted to leave the Soviet Union. Zamyatin spent his remaining years in exile in Paris. His work is now recognised as a cornerstone of twentieth-century dystopian literature.
