Description: Beautifully written and reminiscent of the oral tradition, Hundred in the Hand brings a new slant to the traditional Western: historical fiction written from the Native American viewpoint.

Brief description:

Joseph M. Marshall III was born and raised on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota and holds a PhD from the reservation university, which he helped to establish. He is the award-winning author of ten books, and in 2023 was awarded the Owen Wister Award from the Western Writers of American. He has also won a "Nammy" Award, an AudioFile Earphones Award, and the prestigious Audie Award for Best Narration. He was named Best American Indian Fiction Writer by True West magazine in 2009. He has contributed to various publications and written several screenplays. His first language is Lakota, he handcrafts primitive Lakota bows and arrows, and he is a specialist in wilderness survival. His work as a cultural and historical consultant can be seen and heard on Turner Network Television and the Dreamworks epic television miniseries "Into the West."

Review Quotes:

"Readers who love to hear a harness creak or the whistle of an arrow or love to see snow snake across a drifted valley floor will revel in Marshall's West...If you like Westerns, you'll love this one."
