Brief description: Rui Amaral was born in 1958 in Portugal He was fourteen years old when he and his family immigrated to Winnipeg in Canada He joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in 1975 and then transferred over to the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in 1978 He completed two United Nations tours of Cyprus as well as a tour in Germany in the last days of the Cold War from 1984 to 1988 He served with the Canadian Airborne Regiment from 1990 to 1995, including the tour in Somalia, and retired as a Master Warrant Officer in 1998 Since retirement, Rui has held posts as corporate security and safety advisor for several large corporations and is the owner/director of an international security firm As a security specialist, Rui's key assignment areas have included Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Yemen, Somalia, Cameroon, Chad, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Albania, and locations throughout North America Rui is also the author of Eat Your Weakest Man: Inside the Canadian Airborne Regiment (2000) He currently resides in a small town in Alberta, Canada.
