Brief description: F. J. Talley is a Philadelphia native who has had many different career aspirations. After cowboy and fireman, he temporarily settled on being a music conductor. While in high school he switched to a medical career, which lasted until his first Biology course in college. Many years and six states later, he lives on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay directing a scholars program at a local college. F. J. wrote his first novel-length work in the summer between college and graduate school. This still unpublished work helped to develop his writing style, characterized by dialogue sprinkled with wit and dry humor, even though he doesn't really have a sense of humor. His first published novel is Twin Worlds, which was followed by Take Hart. Both were published in 2017. F. J. is currently at work on his third novel, Diaspora.

Twin Worlds is a great combination of detective fiction and space opera. The main characters, Tucker McLeod and Raina Wolfe, are interesting, strong and likable, and their friendship and teamwork create a fun dynamic that makes for an enjoyable ride (and read) through their process of detecting as they work to uncover the conspiracy plot. The story weaves in political, military and criminal intrigue, with timely plot twists and action scenes (the last action scene being my favorite...cleverly written and fun!) I was impressed with the combined research and imagination used to create the level of detail in the story's backdrops and scenes, as well as its array of characters and overall plot. The book also builds suspense well; I found myself analyzing each new character, wondering if they would be revealed as being involved in the plot conspiracy! So the story development kept me guessing. The end also finishes with a hook that sets it up nicely for a sequel. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here in the next book!
If you're looking for a suspenseful Sci-Fi mystery, this series is a must-read. The characters were enjoyable and the ending left me wanting more! I can't wait until the second book comes out.
I must say it's my favorite book for 2017! A must read if you are interested in mysteries and science fiction! A well written book!
