Description:

Midshipmouse Chester is tail-pumped to graduate from the Naval Mouse Academy, but the final year of training brings unexpected obstacles threatening his well-planned dreams for the future and a dangerous predator imperiling his life.

Brief description: Maggie Vandewalle was born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa. In 1981 she received an art scholarship to the University of Iowa where she worked toward a BFA in printmaking. After college, she gravitated to watercolor, a medium she uses almost exclusively today. She recalls a childhood divided between two passions: an insatiable love of reading and a profound fascination with the natural world. These early interests are the foundation for her paintings of whimsical creatures; whose antics often elicit a smile or a feeling that one has walked into the middle of a remarkable story. As an artist she depicts animals and their environments realistically but with quirks, a bit of humor and always with great respect.

Review Quotes:

"As a writer, I continue to be amazed at the way Susan not only mesmerizes me with a story I was a part of but that she makes me feel like these rodents are a part of my family. If you've read the first two installments, of course, you must read the third." Karl Smith, Author.

"In this charming end to the series, Chester's adventure continues alongside his beloved friends. The trials and triumphs are so relatable to the midshipman's journey, while offering a creative change in perspective. Susan Weisberg does it again, captivating readers with Naval Academy adventures from the eyes of the adorable mice who see everything from the nooks and crannies of Bancroft Hall."

Kristin Cronic, USNA 2011, Artist at Easel on Stribling.

The kids and I are anxiously awaiting the third book! My 9YO talks to me about USNA like he's a grad because of Chester! Monika (Hess) Chess USNA'07

"(Chester Midshipmouse Time and Tide) incorporates harsh and challenging life lessons in an entertaining and inspirational manner." Five Star review, Readers' Favorite

"Susan Weisberg has a winning, likeable character in Chester the mouse. She weaves realistic Naval Academy experiences into the fictional story, providing young readers with an especially vivid journey through Naval studies which are not usually afforded to young readers...Humor is also replete in educational examples kids will find hilarious and familiar...The result is a fantasy, an adventure, and a thought-provoking venture into the halls of Naval training through the eyes of a mouse who observes that the challenges will continue far beyond the classroom walls...Libraries and readers who enjoyed the prior books in the series, or who look for a vivid tale of struggle and change ala Watership Down, will find the Naval Academy milieu and pursuits of man and mouse to be inviting, action-packed, and fun as Chester develops unusual friendships and hones his abilities."

D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review
