Review Quotes:

From the Foreword

The Bible, God's Word, addresses our many "why" questions about our life here. My dear friend, Catherine Martin, has written a book I would call a masterpiece. It is entitled The Calling. It deals with the many questions we have about why we are on the earth, what we need to do about being here, and how to recognize the enormous privilege of our personal calling to be ambassadors of God's truth. Jesus the Son was called to be the Savior for all of God's children who have been lovingly created to live on this planet. There is a divine meaning to our existence, which, once we more fully understand it, is exhiliartinating as well as satisfying.

When I describe this book as a masterpiece, it deserves that designation because The Calling is indeed a work of outstanding skill and workmanship. Catherine Martin is a summa cum laude graduate of Bethel Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts degree in Theological Studies. She is not only well trained, her loving heart and deep caring for every single person God puts in her path is overwhelmingly obvious. You feel her caring intensity as she writes "God has an amazing plan and purpose for your life. His call to you is specific, pointed, and personal He has custom designed your course of spiritual growth. He has planned the specific journey He has in mind for you."

I find that truth enormously comforting. That God is so specific in His call on my life I don't have to cast about worrying whether I am on the right path or not. Bumbling about is not God's calling. His word says "We are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28). So there you have it. Open your Bible, start a regular reading schedule, and be reminded God's walking your walk and leading the way. While you're walking, take luxurious sits and read Catherine's brilliant encouragements in her book The Calling. I guarantee, it will enrich your ideas about what it means to be called by the God of all creation.
