Description: Saint Augustine's Prayer Book is a book of prayer and practice―with disciplines, habits, and patterns for building a Christian spiritual life.

Brief description: Derek Olsen is a biblical scholar and engaged layman in the Episcopal Church. He earned an M.Div. from Emory University's Candler School of Theology, an S.T.M. from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, and served as pastoral vicar of a large Lutheran (ELCA) church in the Atlanta suburbs before beginning doctoral work (and being received into the Episcopal Church). He completed a Ph.D. in New Testament in 2011 from Emory University under the direction of Luke Timothy Johnson. His chief areas of interest are in the intersection between Scripture and liturgy, the history of biblical interpretation--particularly in the Church Fathers and the Early Medieval West--and liturgical spirituality. He lives in Baltimore, MD with his wife, an Episcopal priest, and their two delightful daughters.

Review Quotes: St. Augustine's Prayer Book is by far my favorite prayer book for personal use. Anglocatholics will love it and if you aren't Anglocatholic you'll still find so much beauty and wisdom in its pages and that it's more than worth the cost. The Holy Hour prayers, reflection questions in morning and evening prayer, the prayer for leaving home, and Percy Dearmer's Advent prayer (which is really appropriate at any time) are some of my absolute favorites, just to name a few. Plus, it compliments, not competes with, the Book of Common Prayer, meaning you'll learn more about the Book of Common Prayer and its prayers. 10/10 would recommend.
