Descriptions, Reviews, etc.

Description:

In this accessible integration of psychology and theology, Marjorie Lindner Gunnoe offers a comprehensive understanding of personhood from both perspectives, examining the intersection of biblical perspectives with established theories of social development as proposed by Erik Erikson, B. F. Skinner, Evoluntionary Psychology, and more.

Brief description:

Marjorie Lindner Gunnoe (PhD, University of Virginia) is professor of psychology at Calvin University. She teaches developmental psychology and conducts research on parent-child relationships. Previously she worked at Child Trends, Inc., in Washington DC, and served as a member of the design team for the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth conducted by the US Department of Labor.

Review Quotes:

"Gunnoe adroitly demonstrates how modern psychology can constructively inform Christian reflection on the nature of human life and development. I am especially appreciative of the way that her work gives impetus to reconsidering the dark and often destructive depictions of human nature and original sin rooted in the theology of Saint Augustine and, unfortunately, pervasive in much of evangelical theology today."

Mark H. Mann, professor of theology and director of the Honors ScholarsProgram at Point Loma Nazarene University
