While it is possible to find almost any type of poetry that is being written and published in the United States today, three major movements of the 50s and 60s still find numerous adherents: the Academic poets of the postwar era; the Beats who influenced many during the protest era of the late 50s; and those who wrote in the mode of confessional poetry using autobiographical material with a frankness that would have been rare, or even impossible, thirty years earlier. This DLB volume supplements Volume 5 by presenting biographical entries on thirty poets born before the start of World War II.
