Descriptions, Reviews, etc.

Description: Divided into topical sections, this volume considers the issues of race, poverty, housing, education, health, and democracy. Poverty & Race in America is especially concerned with the links between and among these areas, both for purposes of analysis and policy prescriptions.

Brief description: Eric Foner is DeWitt Clinton Professor of History at Columbia University. He is the author of many highly acclaimed works in American history, notably The Story of American Freedom and Reconstruction. In 2011, he won the Pulitzer Prize for History, the Bancroft Prize, and the Lincoln Prize for The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery. He lives in New York City.

Review Quotes: "Chester Hartman has put together a collection of incisive essays that explore the multiple dimensions of the intersection between race and class in the United States, and the public policies that both sustain and reflect race and class hierarchies. This is certain to be a valuable resource, both for teachers and for activists and advocates in the policy wars." --Frances Fox Piven
