Prof. Dr. Alcides Leao holds a degree in Agronomic Engineering from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho - UNESP (1981), a master's degree in Agronomy (Energy in Agriculture) from UNESP (1987) and a PhD in Forestry from USDA-FPL (Forest Products Laboratory) University of Wisconsin - Madison, USA.

He is currently a Full Professor at Sao Paulo State University (UNESP) in Brazil. He has experience in Bioenergy and Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, with emphasis on Non-Metallic Materials. He has been working mainly on the following topics: environmental management, composites, natural fibers, recycling, biomass energy and management of industrial, agricultural, and urban waste. He is especially dedicated to the production of composites based on natural polymers and the recycling of solid waste from various sources.
