Description: Winner of the Umhoefer Prize: "A magnificent achievement, better, more animated, buoyant, and richly articulated than any other version I know."--Anthony Hecht
Brief description: Sherod Santos is the author of seven books of poetry. A National Book Award finalist, he received an Award in Literature from the Academy of Arts and Letters. He lives in Chicago, where he works in an outreach program for the homeless.
Review Quotes: Greek Lyric Poetry covers the full range of the lyric . . . including many unfamiliar poems that are themselves like archaeological discoveries because never before have they found their finished and beautiful expression in English. Santos takes fragments and epigrammatic stanzas and makes each a singing erotic, caustic, or descriptive lyric.--Willis Barnstone
