Description: Captain Worsley offers a firsthand account of his incredible Antarctic adventure--the astounding and inspiring true story behind the forthcoming Wolfgang Petersen film, "Endurance". On its way to the Antarctic continent in 1915, the Endurance became trapped and then crushed by ice, stranding ship's party of 28 on an ice floe for five months before their rescue.

Brief description: A native New Zealander, Frank A. Worsley served as a reserve officer in the Royal Navy before becoming captain of the Endurance. He commanded two ships in World War I, for which he was decorated, sailed with Shackleton again in 1921, and in 1925 was the joint leader of the British Arctic Exploration. Worsley died in 1943.

Review Quotes: There can surely be no greater example of hardship and survival, of camaraderie and leadership, than Ernest Shackleton's battle to save the lives of his 27 men after his ship the Endurance foundered in Antarctic ice in 1916....Shackleton 'passed through hell' but lost not one.--Jonathan Hollins "Wall Street Journal"
