Description:

This annotated bibliography dealing with J. William Fulbright assesses the literature by and about Senator Fulbright, chronicling the course of U.S. history since the 1940s, his important role as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and in major controversies across the years, such as, the Red Scare about communists in government in the 1950s, the Vietnam War and agitation against it in the 1960s, and the well-known and highly educational exchange program that he fostered. A short introduction describes his early background and political career. The bibliography of almost 1,300 entries covers both primary sources and published secondary works. The first part of the bibliography covers manuscripts and papers collections; the second part of the bibliography arranges Fulbright's writings chronologically and works about him follow in chronologically and topically based chapters and then alphabetically by author. This easily accessible reference tool for scholars and students offers a chronology and a full index.

This work is recommended primarily for academic or public affairs libraries at the undergraduate level."-Choice
